Our Featured Person From Cleveland is Monica “Mzdrummer” Carter. She is a professional drummer and a recording artist and she’s amazing! According to Zippia, a little over 10% of percussionists are women, so Monica is a rare gem. Having played drums since she was a small child, she is now performing all over the world. Q. Which Cleveland neighborhood are you from?
A. East side 189th and Harvard border line Warrensville.
Q. What were your biggest influences while growing up in Cleveland that you believe led to your success?
A. My biggest influences were live concerts on Video Soul and MTV Spring break on T.V.
Q. When did you decide to become a professional drummer?
A. I wanted to be a pro drummer every since I was a child. I would envision me traveling around the world performing.
Q. What do you consider to be your "big break?"
A. My big breaks started when I started going viral. Thanks Social Media lol.
Q. Where is your favorite place you have performed?
A. My favorite place thus far has been The Royal Albert Hall in London.
Q. What do you like to do when you come back to Cleveland?
A. When I visit Ohio I always go to Cedar Point.
Q. When you're working, what is your typical day like?
A. My work day consists of creating content, learning music and watching my favorite performers for inspiration.
Q. Where is your favorite place to eat in Cleveland?
A. My favorite place is Zanzibar.
Q. Is there someone you dream of collaborating or working with?
A. I want to perform with Sheila E - that’s number one on my list.
Q. What's great about being from Cleveland?
A. Cleveland teaches you how to endure all seasons, that can mean weather wise or different seasons in life.
Q. What's next for you professionally?
A. Next I would like to write a book about my journey to success.
